Incentives

In buying BlazBlue's Limited Edition (the only version of the game available until later this week), I received a soundtrack and introductory DVD as special thanks for picking the game up during the first few weeks of release -- and didn't have to pay any extra money to get them!

This idea is brilliant. In case you were unaware, most "hardcore" video games sell most of their copies during the first few weeks post-release; therefore, anything a developer can do to discourage waiting by consumers will equal more dollars made. Why not offer some reward to the customers really proving a game's worth to the publisher?

I'd like to see more games offer incentives for buying in the first three weeks. The included combo DVD w/ commentary by Jessica Chobot was a great idea for a fighter; how about an overview of characters for an RPG, or developer interviews? The sky's the limit, but more companies should try this release model out -- and I'm not just saying that because I like getting free stuff. :p
